An oil pump creates oil flow, the oil pressure is produced by the resistance or backpressure created by the tight clearance of all the components combined; crankshaft bearings, cam bearings and valvetrain components. When components wear, the clearance is increased (more gap) and therefore the resistance or oil pressure is decreased. A low oil pressure condition is usually caused by a leak or excessive wear in an engine.
